Australia has a number of gateways from the UK. There are no non-stop flights with all options requiring at least one touch down or change of aircraft. Qantas/BA operates a joint option on the ‘Kangaroo’ routes with daily services from Heathrow to Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns and Darwin.
Flights either touchdown in Singapore or Bangkok or you change aircraft at these airports. Virgin Atlantic also operates a daily service to Sydney via Hong Kong. There is an extensive domestic network with Qantas, Virgin Blue and Jetstar to take you to onward destinations. Alternatively you can fly daily with Emirates from 7 UK airports via Dubai to Brisbane , Melbourne , Sydney and Perth ; Singapore Airlines operates daily from London and Manchester via Singapore to Brisbane , Melbourne , Perth , Adelaide and Sydney; Etihad and Qatar Airways operate daily to Sydney and Melbourne and Etihad also fly to Brisbane. There are a variety of other carriers you can fly to Australia on, however journey times tend to be longer and flights do not connect as well. These include Malaysian, Thai, Royal Brunei, Cathay Pacific and JAL. Flight times are around 19 hours to Perth and 22 hours to Sydney or Melbourne. Fares have been as little as £499 return – however expect to pay between £599 and £899 for an economy fare. Airlines offer economy, business and first class.
