Stronger pound makes property in Spain more attractive

As the euro continues to weaken against the pound, overseas property in Spain will become more attractive to British buyers. Mark Stucklin, head of advice website Spanish Property Insight, said prices in Spain have taken longer to adjust downward than other countries and this was compounded by a weak pound. However, Spain's fortunes as an attractive property investment destination are expected to improve in 2012. According to Mr Stucklin, the pound is already riding at 1.20 against the euro "and it looks like it is just going to head up all year". "I think we are now in [a period of] price stability and, with the euro getting cheaper compared to the pound, that will mean that it gets more interesting for British buyers," he added, describing 2012 as a "key year". Anna Nicholas, a Mallorca-based journalist and author, has previously highlighted that Malaga and Andalucía offer a host of facilities looking to start a new life in the sun, alongside Alicante and the Costa Brava.
