Buying Property in Veneto

Where to buy property in Veneto
Overseas property buyers may look no further than Venice for a property, but there is more to the region than that famous city, which despite a dwindling population still has some of the most desirable and expensive property for sale in the entire country.
Just 30 kilometres from Venice, Padua (Padova) is a lively and historic university town. Treviso and Vicenza are unspoilt, historic cities where property is a fraction of the price of Venice. Many potential property buyers will be taken with the distinctive ‘ville venete’ (Venetian villas), a style of property dating back up to 500 years that is prevalent throughout the region.
There is skiing in the north of the region. Belluno is nestled in the Dolomites and offers downhill and cross-country skiing in winter. The area is also home to the Bellunesi Dolomites National Park, the only protected National Park in the northeast of Italy. Traditional properties in the countryside are popular and cheaper than the city equivalent.
Venice itself attracts visitors from all over the world. Its residential population is around one third of what it was 50 years ago, which means there are many properties for sale. There are also many potential property buyers, and the most popular and picturesque thoroughfares command very high prices, but there is traditional property in less fashionable areas and even conversions and new property at more reasonable prices.
