America’s greenest city

20 May 2009 Philadelphia will become the greenest city in the USA, if the city’s mayor, Michael Nutter, meets his targets. Nutter wants to make Philadelphia the greenest city in the country by 2015, and has set out 15 targets to achieve that goal. “This is not an environmental plan; this is an economic plan,” said Mark Alan Hughes, director of the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and a senior advisor in his cabinet. Nutter’s plan includes developing many old USA property developments into green-friendly, sustainable schemes, and a reduction in total energy consumption by 30%.
