British firm to cut USA property developer arm

5 October 2009 Taylor Wimpey is expected to put its problematic USA property and Canada property business up for sale this autumn in an attempt to raise around £560m, according to various reports. Although the board has not yet issued its final approval, City sources believe that it will only be a matter of weeks until the sale is given the go-ahead. If accurate, a sales memorandum is expected to be prepared before the end of 2009. Taylor Wimpey operates under the Monarch brand in Canada, which focuses on high-rise apartments. In the USA, the company is active under the Taylor Morrison brand, which became one of the largest homebuilders in the US, covering property in Arizona, property in California, property in Colorado, property in Florida, property in Nevada and property in Texas. Taylor Wimpey report that orders in North America have increased 23% over the past year, following a sluggish period in light of the global credit crunch.
