Building work on Murcia airport to get underway
Country: Central, Other Spanish Places, Spain; Other Spanish Places, Spain; Spain
4 July 2008
Construction work on Murcia’s new airport is expected to get underway over the next few days.
The £200m project has been earmarked for completion in 2010, and is expected to be up and running during the tail end of that year.
The airport will help cater for the growing number of tourists visiting the region. Data for the existing airport, San Javier, shows that in recent years, the volume of passengers visiting the Spanish region grew from 1,646,129 in 2006 to 2,002,949 in 2007. Growing tourism rates is likely to increase demand for property for sale in Murcia over the coming years.
Mike Hamilton of local developer Casas de Lorca commented: “The development of the eagerly anticipated Murcia Airport will be excellent for the region as it will ease passenger numbers at the current airport as well as making travel easier and more convenient for both regular visitors and new passengers using the new facilities. Murcia continues to grow in popularity as more and more people come to recognise the area’s attractive scenery, rich history and good value for money and the development of Murcia Airport will only add to this trend.”
