Bulgaria new home prices fall 30%
Country: Bulgaria
20 February 2009
The average price of a new-build home in Bulgaria fell by 30% year-on-year in January, as a consequence of the global financial turbulence, according to the latest data compiled by the Bulgarian division of U.S.-based property company ERA.
The property agency projects that the level of home purchase transactions will fall over the next few months, largely due to the end of easy access to mortgage finance. This owed to tighter bank lending rules.
Research shows that just 12% of all property sales agreed by ERA Bulgaria between November and January involved a mortgage.
The financial turmoil has also hit small Bulgarian estate agents, with around 200 offices reportedly closed down in January.
The average price of a property in Bulgaria is now £514sqm and £874sqm in Sofia, according to data by Century 21, reports seenews.com.
