Crete airport to be upgraded

Crete’s property market has been boosted by the fact that the Greek Government has started work on upgrading Sitia airport – located in the north-east of the island - as part of €2bn investment into the tourist industry.
The Greek Government says that the improved airport – which will include three new terminals - forms part of a strategy to encourage development and boost infrastructure. It is hoped that this in turn will attract a greater number of tourists, which may impact positively on the local economy and increase demand for property for sale in Crete. Construction work on Crete’s third largest airport is due for completion in 2009.
