Dubai suffers from lack of skilled labourers

Industry experts have warned that Dubai's £100bn projects - which are either in the pipeline or under development - could be affected due to the severe shortage of skilled labour.
There are around 3,400 projects for completion in the Middle East region valued at more than $2.4 trillion, which could be delayed by the labour problem, according to a report in the Gulf News.
”Too many projects were released on to the market too quickly and now many contractors have a backlog,” one expert stated. He referred to Arabtec which has a backlog of £6.2bn worth of projects and a workforce of 52,000.
To add to the problem, there is also a shortage of civil engineers right at the time the region needs them the most.
