Foreign investment in Brazil property market up 20.6%
Country: Brazil
23 January 2009
Foreign direct investment into Brazil’s property market appreciated by 20.6% in 2008, amounting to $41.7m (£30.8m), up from $36.6m (£27m) in 2007, according to figures compiled by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.
Brazil, which will host the 2014 football World Cup and is short-listed as a contender to hold the 2016 Olympic Games, is one of the few countries around the world to buck the general downward economic trend to-date. In fact, with mass regeneration taking place across the country, the prospects for future capital growth look promising.
Furthermore, Cross-border mergers and acquisitions also rose by 13.6%, producing around $9.7m (£7.2m) for Brazil’s economy, compared to $8.6m (£6.3m) in 2007.
A recent poll carried out by the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate rated Brazil as the second global destination for capital appreciation, after the USA.
