France property investment levels plummet

Property investment activity in France dropped 54% to €13bn (£12.2bn) in 2008, down from €28.5bn (£26.7bn) in 2007, according to Cushman & Wakefield (C&W).
The investment level recorded in 2008 was well below the average amount of money - €14.4bn (£13.5bn) - invested each year in the country’s property market, dating back to 1998.
Ile-de-France, composed mostly of the Paris metropolitan area, remained the most popular region in which to buy property, attracting 73% of total activity last year, according to the broker.
Property investors from around the globe have withdrawn from buying property in France, with the exception of German open-ended funds.
