French electrical surveys to become mandatory

10 June 2008 Owners of French properties will soon be required to carry out a compulsory electrical survey before placing their homes for sale. The new survey, which will assess the safety of a property’s electrical system, will become mandatory on French home sales from 1st January 2009. This is unless the electrical system was implemented within the last 15 years. Although the owners of the properties in France will not be required to repair any faults prior to selling, prospective purchasers might be able to negotiate a price reduction if major works are necessary.
