Green scheme launched in Kenya
Country: Kenya
4 December 2008
An eco-friendly residential-led development called Medina Palms in Watamu, Kenya, has been launched, which comprises of a selection of environmentally sensitive villas, apartments and penthouses, with prices starting from around £161,000.
Fitted with all the usual high specification units and resorts facilities, Medina Palms , which is being built by Medina Residence, also has various green features that may appeal to the eco-investor. For example, kitchens are fitted with recycling bins, and hot water is provided by solar power. Building materials are local and sustainable and Two Bio Digesters will minimise water consumption and generate water for irrigation purposes.
Gordon Miller, founder editor of whatgreenhome.com, says: “Medina Palms is that all too rare beast: a development where sustainability, conservation and social responsibility inform the development rather than being adjuncts to help market the project.”
Editorial comment A big thumbs-up to the team behind Medina Palms for their green approach. However, travelling thousands of miles by plane from the UK, via Amsterdam or Dubai, to Nairobi, plus a further 50-minute flight from Nairobi to Malindi and a 20-minute drive on top of that, is hardly reducing one’s carbon footprint!
