More Brits eye up Canadian properties

20 March 2009 Whilst the UK economy slips deeper into recession, the fear of unemployment combined with the dwindling value of sterling is prompting nearly half - 45% - of all British workers to consider relocating abroad, according to recent research conducted by Travelex Personal Payments. The study by the foreign exchange specialist shows that the prospect of an enhanced quality of life as well as better job prospects are luring Brits to far-away lands. The firm’s research further reveals that a third of all British workers who are considering relocating from the UK to work abroad would contemplate moving to and buying property in Canada. One region that is proving particularly popular with Brits at the moment is Mont Tremblent located in the French-speaking region of Quebec. Home to the Homes Overseas 2008 award-winning residential scheme, Rabaska – awarded gold for ‘Best Ski development’ and silver for ‘Best Canada property’, the region is growing ever more desirable. Rabaska features a selection of spacious riverside two- and three-bedroom family and semi-detached homes, as well as townhouses, and is currently the region’s lowest density integrated residential project. Prices range from £128,000 to £248,000. The nearest airport can be found in Montreal located two-hours away by road. “The eastern part of Canada, with its snowy peaks, winding rivers and lush forestry, represents fabulous value for the money,” says George Lathouras, the developer of the Rabaska resort project.” Within Mont Tremblant itself, Rabaska represents incomparable value for money. “Our economic cycle never swings as far up or down as the UK or USA,” Lathouras adds.
