New Zealand property bounces back
Country: New Zealand
14 May 2009 Buoyed by lower interest rates and more affordable homes, demand for property in New Zealand has risen, according to estate agent Harcourts. The property firm says that it sold 44% more homes in April, compared to corresponding month in 2008. The number of sales in Christchurch appreciated 75%. In the northern region of New Zealand, which includes Auckland, the rise was 72%. The number of homes sold has risen substantially, following a decline last year, said Harcourts New Zealand chief executive Bryan Thomson. "Kiwis have become sick and tired of all the negativity and fed up with putting their lives on hold, so they've decided to be positive, to stop stalling and to take action in the real estate market," Thomson said.
