New airport to boost Cyprus property market

15 October 2009 The Cyprus property sector should receive a much needed boost from greater tourism levels, which are expected to increase, when the new Larnaka International Airport is opened on the island next month. Androulla Christodoulou, head of Services of Civil Aviation at Larnaka International Airport told CAN, that the new international airport will offer the country’s economy and tourism sector a fresh momentum, following the recent economic turmoil. The new airport, which is scheduled to open on 7 November, will feature a multimillion pound new passenger terminal building, following the largest construction project of its kind in the Republic. Christodoulou said that Larnaka serves around 5.6 million passengers annually and added that she hopes that the “new terminal building will give a new boost for the economy general, as we are in the midst of a world economic crisis and will significantly help towards the tourism and economic development of Cyprus in general”. The Cypriot property market has been hard hit by the global economic crisis, with demand international demand falling for homes across the island.
