Record number of Brits flee abroad

The growing number of Brits moving abroad has increased demand for more homes overseas.
A government study shows that the number of Britons that moved out of the UK in 2006 – the last year for which figures are available - topped 200,000 for the first-time.
Over the past decade, over 1.5m British citizens have moved abroad, including 207,000 people in 2006.
Official figures show that a third of those emigrating went to Australia or New Zealand, more than a quarter went to Spain or France, and one in 12 to the US.
The Institute for Public Policy Research said last year that there were 1.3m British emigrants residing in Australia, 761,000 living in Spain and 678,000 in the U.S.
A separate YouGov survey last year found that one in three Britons was considering emigrating.
