South African property prices expected to rise

Average South African property prices will appreciate by around 60% over the next five years, according to Absa Bank.
Gavin Opperman, managing director of Absa Homes Loans, reportedly said: “In five years time property is expected to be about 60% more expensive than today, taking into account growth of 10% over this period.”
Opperman suggests that this year is the best time to buy property in South Africa, because growth should be relatively slow.
The First National Bank of South Africa (FNB) projects that average South African property prices will rise by around 8.1% in 2008, before rising to 10.6% and 18.9% in 2009 and 2010 respectively.
