Spanish asking prices cold tumble 40%

8 April 2009 Asking prices for properties in Spain could plummet by as much as 40% this year, according to a report from the Network of Property Experts. A drastic fall in demand, means that an average of just 9,000 resale homes are now being sold each month, placing a downward pressure on prices. The report says: “[The fall in demand for homes] pushes vendors into dropping their asking prices; if in the past this was done with reductions of 2% to 3%, now the drop is around 30% to 40%.” However, the report adds that a potential recovery in the Spain property market could start next year and would take around four years to complete.
