Strong tourism to drive South African rental market

South Africa’s property rental sector is set to benefit from strong tourism levels over the coming years.
In 2007, tourism levels in South Africa rose by 9%, which was estimated to be worth in the region of €31.2bn (£24.8bn). Yet, aided by the fact that the country will host the 2010 football World Cup, it’s estimated that this figure will reach $60bn in 2017. Annual economic growth over this period is expected to reach around 4.4%, well above the forecasted global average of 3%.
Average South African property prices have appreciated annually by 16.74% over the past seven years, according to the Global Property Guide. The Guide forecasts that this level of capital growth will continue over the next few years.
