Switzerland’s housing market could be real winner of Euro 2008

Many of the football fans currently in Switzerland watching this month's Euro 2008 football championships are likely to consider buying a home in the country, in turn driving demand for Swiss property, according to property agency Sunday Homes.
The company believes the country’s tax benefits and natural attractions will prove highly popular to tourists with money to buy an investment property or second home.
"I am absolutely convinced holiday visitors, or at least some of them, might consider buying, certainly if they regularly visit Switzerland," said Laurence Cederwall, manager of Sunday Homes.
"For example, ski holiday makers will find it more interesting to own a place with all its benefits, including capital appreciation, good rental yield, tax advantages and the possibility of reselling later on, than renting someone else's place over and over.”
The tournament is expected to attract between 2.8 and 5.4m visitors to the country, according to Switzerland.com.
Experts point out that rental yields, or the amount of money landlords can get from tenants for their investment, can be high, while Swiss property values are generally rising.
