Many of us dream about owning a beachfront home overseas, and so we have gone traipsing through the sand in search of ten of the best beachfront properties in the world. Here they are:

Quinta da Fortaleza, western Algarve, Portugal
This high-quality, stylish development overlooks the Atlantic Ocean in a rural spot between the popular costal villages of Salema and Burgau. Beach villas are designed in highly contemporary style and homeowners are entitled to use the facilities, including the nearby championship golf course and spa.
NonSuch Bay, Antigua
With 16 hectares of tropical landscaped grounds and a glorious setting right on the Caribbean Sea, NonSuch Bay is a gem. The low-key resort offers a choice of well-designed properties, from luxurious villas and waterfront townhouses with private plunge pools and moorings to beachfront and hillside apartments with one to three bedrooms.
Reef Club, Praia do Porto, Brazil
The Reef Club delivers stylish cutting-edge properties on a stunning area of Brazil's rural north coast, with a range of facilities buyers have come to expect, including quality spa, conference facilities and restaurants. It overlooks five kilometres of palm-fringed beach.
Whisper Bay, Queensland, Australia
Right on the waterfront at Airlie Beach, a popular resort in northern Queensland, and surrounded by national park, this area alone boasts ten of the best-regarded beaches in the world. All apartments and villas are contemporary and custom-designed.
Mount Cinnamon, Grenada
Mount Cinnamon is set into a wooded hillside overlooking famously pretty Grand Anse Beach. The properties are a mix of renovated local houses and chic new-build apartments. The town of St George is just 20 minutes away.
Pedra de Lume, Sal, Cape Verde
The local beaches here are wonderful and, as a result, there is a lot of development going on, with several big resorts under construction. Pedra de Lume is one of the largest and will possibly be one of the best with its direct access to two fabulous beaches with a third one to be created.
Soneva Kiri, Koh Kood, Thailand
Located 40 minutes flight from Bankok, this secluded island hideaway off Thailand's east coast, forms part of the luxury Soneva hotel brand. This development offers the height of indulgence in a fabulous jungle setting that is also right on a beautiful white-sand beach.
Corniche Bay, Mauritius
Mauritius is home to some pretty special beachfront resorts. Few, however, will be able to match the latest concept from luxury hotel group Banyan Tree. Campeche Playa Golf, Marina and Spa Resort, Campeche, Mexico
Situated on the beautiful Yucatan Peninsula in southern Mexico, this resort spanning 300-hectare includes an 18-hole golf course, a marina, a five-star hotel and spa, plus direct access to unspoilt beaches that stretch for 400 kilometres.
Amber Coast, Dominican Republic
This front-line beach development is on the island's north coast offers a range of property options from studios right up to luxury six-bedroom villas. The complex is well landscaped with tropical planting and a championship golf course.
