Countries in the Mediterranean will probably be the worst affected from climate change in the future, according to Deutsch Bank Research (DBR).

The study showed that changing weather patterns in the future would significantly affect tourism migration by 2030, as heat waves across parts of the Mediterranean become more severe.

The bank anticipates that Malta, Cyprus, Turkey and Greece will be worst hit by changing weather patterns. If accurate, this could have a detrimental affect on their respective economies, which are heavily reliant on tourism.

Spain will also be adversely affected – by severe water shortages – which has already proved to be a problem over the past couple of years.

On the other hand, the DBR expects France to be one of the least affected by climate change over the next couple of decades, because tourism there is much less reliant on the weather.

Some of the main benefactors of climate change driving tourists out of the Mediterranean are predicted to be the Benelux countries, Central Europe, Germany, Scandinavia, the UK and Ireland.

Ski locations are expected to move further north away from Switzerland, Austria and Germany towards Scandinavia, and Central Europe.

The Atlantic Coast, the UK and Germany could become more popular beach holiday destinations.
