BRAC, the largest island in central Dalmatia and the third largest on the Adriatic– 394,57 sq km, population 13 824. It is separated from the mainland by the Brac Channel, from the island of Solta by the so-called Splitska Vrata (Split Gate) and from the island of Hvar by the Hvar Channel. The highest peak of the island, Vidova Gora (Vitus' Mount) (778 m), is also the highest peak of all Croatian islands.

Average air temperatures in January range between 4.9°C and 7.2°C, and in July between 22.9°C and 24.7°C. Rainfall occurs mostly in the winter months. The climate on the island is mostly moderated by winds, i.e.the sirocco and the bora (the so-called ''vruljska'' bora between Pucisca and Povlja). The landward breeze occurs quite often in the summer months, especially along the north-western coast.

Main agriculture products are olive oil, wine and fruit (wild cherries and almonds); as well as livestock breeding and fishing. Major quarries, where the famous Brac building stone is excavated, are located near Pucisca, Selca, Postira, Splitska and Donji Humac (this kind of building stone was used in the construction across the island- Diokletian palace in Split as well as the White House in Washington DC were built by Brac stone). Ferry lines Split – Supetar, Makarska – Sumartin; ship lines with Supetar and Bol. International airport (for smaller aircrafts) is located near Bol.

Postira is a small tourist place situated on the northern side of the island. It has a favorable position and a port, which made Postira a fisherman center. Fertile land in its background provides guests with homemade food and excellent wines.
There are several smaller bays in the area with sandy (Prvlja), pebbled (Mala Lozna and Zastivanje) and rocky beaches surrounded by pine forests. Visit Dragon's cave situated above Murvica village, which has many carved ornaments representing dragons and other mythological creatures.
Everybody who wishes to feel a genuine atmosphere of a fisherman village should definitely visit Postira.
Postira is a small fisherman village near the bay of Lovrecina where one can organize a fishing picnic. Its favorable position gave Postira a fertile countryside where the local residents take pride in their excellent offer of wines and food. In general, the island of Brac is full of interesting small places we recommend visiting. An absolute must is the visit to local “konobas”, taverns, where excellent wine, cheese and prosciutto is on offer to visitors.
