Set alongside the riverbanks of the village of Bagni de Lucca, just 20 kms from the beautiful walled city of Lucca, this lovely area has attracted artists and writers, both past and present, for decades.

Bagni di Lucca is a charming little Spa ‘town’, made up of a cluster of villages - the main village being 'La Villa'. It nestles in the green valley of the river Lima at the foot of the Apennines, which lie between Tuscany and Emilia. This is an area of wooded hills and winding roads, where many Italians choose to have their holiday properties.

You should however note this isn't Chiantishire, the fashionable, expensive and crowded part of Tuscany, south of Florence, but the quieter, more relaxed and, to our minds, far more interesting area to the north. Pisa and Florence are within easy reach and skiing at Abetone and sandy beaches are within an hour's drive of the area.

The beaches of Versilia (Tuscan Riviera) are just 45 kms away, as are the skiing resorts, such as Abetone (snow December to March). Sea and ski, or city shopping and sightseeing is available for all, with such easy access to Lucca, Florence and Pisa. A must see when by the sea is the beautiful old town of Pietrasanta or just down the road, one of Italy’s most chic resorts, Forte dei Marmi, the popular haunts of the rich and famous.

Just 45 minutes away from the airport of Pisa which has daily flights from both Ireland and the UK.

The Development

The building is an old paper mill and is under the protection of ‘Belle Arte’. Permission has been granted for 45 apartments, with the undertaking that the windows, brickwork and wooden rafters will be restored to their original state. All original features will also be restored to their former glory. This very unique building is over 200 years old!

Development will consist of a selection of studios, one bedroom and two bedroom apartments and duplex apartments. Prices start at €95.000. The villages remain mainly unspoilt with small scale farming the principal source of employment.
