The most popular Sardinia properties are on the coast. With magnificent sandy beaches and clear turquoise seas it's easy to see why both Italian and foreign buyers favour coastal property in Sardinia. In the northeast, around the Costa Smerelda and the resort of Porto Cervo in particular, prices of Sardinia property for sale are very high, matching the Amalfi coast.
On the west coast, Alghero is the hub of development. It's a charming port from where you can travel by road or sea to a variety of resorts up and down the coast, including Stintino and Bosa. In general, the northern coast is better developed than the south, and you can buy Sardinia property more cheaply on the southern end of the island.
There are derelict farmhouses in need of renovation inland and these are much sought after both by buyers from overseas and the Italian mainland. Again, prices for these properties in Sardinia are very favourable. If prices of coastal property for sale in Sardinia are beyond your budget, look a little further into the hinterland where Sardinia property prices are notably more affordable.
With the odd exception, property in Sardinia is less expensive than Sicily property. As yet, tourist numbers do not match those on Sicily and those tourists are predominantly Italian. Sardinia is still largely unknown to the British but with good, low-cost services to two of the island’s airports, there is potential for growth to this exceptional Mediterranean jewel.
