Thai and foreign buyers alike are currently buying Thailand property. This exotic country has a wide variety of properties in many different locations, from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok’s Docklands area to the tranquillity and serene sea views of one of the Thai islands.
There some buying restrictions on property in Thailand. Foreigners are not able to personally own land, so the two most common options are to set up a company to buy Thailand property (for example a villa) or to choose an apartment or condominium instead. Despite these restrictions, many overseas buyers are buying a Thailand house, both as a holiday and investment destination.
Popular holiday areas are the island of Phuket, towards the south of the country, the lively resort of Pattaya in the east and Hua Hin to the southwest of Bangkok. Buying Thai property in the capital is a common investment choice, with many foreign workers requiring rental homes there. Those thinking of buying golf property in Thailand should look at Hua Hin, as there are a number of courses already built and under construction there and it’s just a couple of hours’ drive from Bangkok.
Phuket, the country’s largest island, has some of the finest luxury property in Thailand, with some outstanding hillside property overlooking beautiful beaches and clear blue waters. While Thailand properties are generally modestly priced compared with property in the UK, these will be out of reach to all but the wealthiest.
Thailand’s colour, climate and friendly welcome have made it a very popular long-haul holiday destination and UK buyers looking further afield than Europe may well be tempted to consider buying property in Thailand.
